Age validation of Han Chinese centenarians.

چکیده
"Based on a set of solid measures computed from the 1990 census data and the age validation procedures conducted in our Hangzhou, Beijing and Chengdu surveys, this paper shows that the Han Chinese centenarians' age reporting [is generally] good, because Han Chinese people [are] used to remember their birth dates. Age-reporting of the super centenarians is very rare so that a small number of them who exaggerate their ages can result in a substantial distortion of data quality at these highest ages." (EXCERPT)

They really are that old: a validation study of centenarian prevalence in Okinawa.
Long-lived individuals, such as centenarians, may harbor genetic or environmental advantages important for healthy aging. Populations with high prevalence of such individuals offer fertile ground for such research. However, precise phenotypes are required, particularly accurate age. Okinawa has among the world's highest reported prevalence of centenarians but, despite extensive study, no system...
متن کاملImproved lipids, diastolic pressure and kidney function are potential contributors to familial longevity: a study on 60 Chinese centenarian families
Centenarians are a good healthy aging model. Interestingly, centenarians' offspring are prone to achieve longevity. Here we recruited 60 longevity families and investigated the blood biochemical indexes of family members to seek candidate factors associated with familial longevity. First, associations of blood indexes with age were tested. Second, associations of blood parameters in centenarian...
متن کاملNovel loci and pathways significantly associated with longevity.
Only two genome-wide significant loci associated with longevity have been identified so far, probably because of insufficient sample sizes of centenarians, whose genomes may harbor genetic variants associated with health and longevity. Here we report a genome-wide association study (GWAS) of Han Chinese with a sample size 2.7 times the largest previously published GWAS on centenarians. We ident...
متن کاملAssociation of the insulin-like growth factor binding protein 3 (IGFBP-3) polymorphism with longevity in Chinese nonagenarians and centenarians
Human lifespan is determined greatly by genetic factors and some investigations have identified putative genes implicated in human longevity. Although some genetic loci have been associated with longevity, most of them are difficult to replicate due to ethnic differences. In this study, we analyzed the association of 18 reported gene single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) with longevity in 1075...
متن کاملCase-control study on peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma polymorphism and interaction with HDL on essential hypertension in Chinese Han
Objective(s): To investigate the association of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors gamma (PPARG) with essential hypertension (EH) and additional role of gene– high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL) interaction. Materials and Methods:A total of 1640 patients with EH (806 males, 834 females), with a mean age of 52.5±12.6 years, were selec...
